Observing a Potential FBOT

Abstract

Fast Blue Optical Transients (FBOTs) are a mysterious class of very energetic transient events. Characterized by their blue, featureless spectra, rapid evolution, and high intrinsic brightness, their mechanism of generation is unknown. Only a handful of FBOTs have been detected, and only one (AT2018cow) was significantly observed in the mm. Recently, a potential FBOT was reported on IAU transient name server. We propose MUSTANG-2 observations of the source follow-up the initial optical observations. M2 observations can both assist in confirming the potential FBOT as well as give insight into the formative mechanism if it is indeed an FBOT.
