Mapping Cool Clouds in the Milky Way's Nuclear Wind

Abstract

We propose a GBT survey of a large (10x12 degree) region within the Milky Way's northern Fermi Bubble to map neutral HI clouds in the nuclear wind. This region bridges the gap between HI clouds near the Galactic Center and those recently discovered at higher latitudes (b > 25 degres; Bordoloi et al. 2025). The resulting legacy dataset will allow us to trace how HI column density and velocity vary with latitude, revealing the vertical structure of the outflow. Combined with HST UV absorption-line data tracing ionized gas, we will build the first comprehensive, multi-phase picture of the Milky Way's nuclear wind.
