Revealing the nature of the offset cool core in SpARCSJ1049+5640 through SZ

Abstract

SpARCS J104922+56403 is thought to be one of the exceptionally rare galaxy clusters to host a bona fide cooling flow, featuring a tremendous star formation rate as well as the highest redshift radio mini-halo known. This cluster is situated at an epoch when the universe was only 3.8 billion years old (z=1.71), which makes it difficult to probe the distribution and state of the hot intracluster medium (ICM) in detail using X-ray observations, the traditional tool for such studies. However, the SZ effect offers a powerful, complementary alternative well suited for high redshift systems. Here we propose exploratory MUSTANG-2 observations of SpARCSJ1049+5640 to determine the concentration, distribution, and peak of the gas pressure distribution, helping to further reveal the complex interactions in this forming cluster.
