Maser polarization during a major outburst

Abstract

Recent observations of flaring masers in Mon R2 have revealed a first detection of periodic polarization changes in the masering regions. In the past four months, the 4.765 GHz OH maser is seen to be undergoing a major outburst, exceding the intensity of an extreme event in 1994-1998. The recent polarization measurements show lower polarization percentages than the 1994-1998 outburst. We aim to observe the masers' polarization, to discover if the same or novel polarization behavior and levels occur during the current outburst.
