A Complete Sample of HI Masses for Satellite Galaxies around Milky Way Analogs

Abstract

We propose to complete an L-band survey to measure HI gas masses of low mass satellites galaxies around nearby Milky Way-analog systems identified in the SAGA Survey. We will target 68 satellites with the requested 71.75 hours, complementing recent and archival HI observations. Satellite galaxies in Milky Way analogs appear to be deficient in HI gas compared to field galaxies, even in satellites which are currently star-forming. A complete sample will allow us to quantify this statement and better understand the effects of environment on the evolution of low mass galaxy systems.
