Evidence for episodic gas ejection from the Galactic Centre?

Abstract

There are now more than 250 known neutral clouds entrained in the Milky Way's nuclear wind that have been detected through their 21cm emission. Many aspects of their spatial and velocity distribution can be explained by an accelerating outflow in a bi-cone originating from the region of the Galactic Center. Our current data however also show an anomaly in the velocity distribution of the cloud population that might be explained either by an episodic outflow event or by cloud destruction in a continuous scenario. This proposal aims to use new, deeper HI observations to distinguish between these two scenarios.
