Filler Time Request - The Smith Cloud Debris Stream

Abstract

The origin of the Smith Cloud continues to be an enigma. Determining an accurate orbit for the Smith Cloud will help determine if this cloud is a High Velocity Cloud, the gas remnants of a dwarf galaxy, material swept up from a previous galactic plane passage of a dark matter clump, etc. Identifying material in a debris stream from the Smith Cloud from interactions with the Galactic Halo can lead to better orbit determinations using the same methods that work for orbits for stellar debris streams. Here we propose a filler time extension of GBT18A-314 to identify more material in the debris stream of the Smith Cloud.
