Follow-up of ASKAP FRBs

Abstract

ASKAP has discovered twenty-six Fast Radio Bursts as of first of August 2018. This represents a large fraction of all known FRBs. One of the currently most exciting questions that is posted by FRBs is what fraction of them repeat. In this proposal, we request GBT time to carry out follow-up observations of these and future detections of FRBs by ASKAP. We expect ASKAP will detect 40 FRBs in total by the end of the 2018B semester. We will make use of GBT's unrivalled sensitivity to provide the most stringent limits on repeatability possible for these sources. We note that the proposal is complemented by similar proposals with other radio facilities in Australia and the USA as well as ESO's optical facilities.
