HI-MaNGA: HI Followup for MaNGA Galaxies

Abstract

This filler proposal is aimed at continuing our programme to obtain HI single dish observations for as many of the galaxies observed in the MaNGA survey (Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory; part of SDSS-IV) as possible. This work makes an ideal filler proposal for GBT time, as galaxies which have been observed by MaNGA are spread right across the Northern skies. Knowledge of the total HI content of these galaxies will provide a unique contribution to many of the science cases MaNGA was designed to address, as well as helping to inform decisions about targets for future spatially resolved HI followup. The first three years of MaNGA data will be made public through the SDSS system in December 2018 and this proposal will complete HI observing for that sample. To coincide with that we also release the first year of observing for this programme (AGBT16A_95) and the plan is to make all reduced HI data of MaNGA galaxies public through the same system to create a value added catalogue of benefit to the entire extragalactic community.
